State Audit Review

Bullet points as printed in the Pioneer Press
The city should consider opening up a competitive request-for-proposal process for things such as engineering services to "demonstrate impartiality."
It should provide more oversight of employee-reimbursement funds such as mileage to ensure information is recorded accurately.
It should do more monitoring of the city administrator's and finance director's time spent working and revise if necessary.

I agree totally with the recommendations of the audit. When I worked for the government I had to dot my i's and cross my t's. Everything had to be accounted for. Of course I had a lower level position so that's probably why.

Great comments from Steve King in the newspaper. I say we ask him to run for Mayor in 2010. He may be just what we need. He stated empowerment in the next elections by the people and mentions conservatism. How refreshing! He's got my vote!

Looks like Mary Capra is going to be in for some competition next year!!
We will have to hope there are not three people running for Mayor again or she might just get reelected with less than a majority vote. That is EXACTLY why we are stuck with her today.
If John Meyer was so great, then why did the Mayor of Maple Lake kick his butt out of town while our Mayor defends his moonlighting actions?
Another question comes to mind...
This blog has been railing on the money spent for engineering fees. The audit pointed out that Centerville should have a competitive bid process. I think that points to Mike Statz (City Engineer) and employee of Bonestroo making recommendations that benefit his company.

Thank GOD there is another election next year!
Mary Capra, Linda Vickers and Tom Lee are all up for reelection.
Let's vote them ALL out of office and put the brakes on spending money we don't have!!!

"Of the suggestions the auditor's office made, the mention of open meetings. Centerville makes its meeting minutes available on its Web site, but printed versions weren't readily available."

AS OF THIS THIS EVENING THE MEETING MINUTES HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATED ONLINE SINCE 07/08/2009 AND THOSE MINUTES ARE STILL NOT APPROVED!!
EVEN AFTER ARGUING WITH THE STATE AUDITORS ON THIS VERY ISSUE!

As of today the meeting minutes are still not updated since 7/8/09.
Thank you for pointing this out.

Bye, bye Capra!
Keep defending the indefensible!

Are you kidding me, Tom Lee? The audit is going to impact the Fete Du Lacs festival next year?
Yes, I read your comments in the press... Glad you shot off about 5K in fireworks during a tornado warning and canceled our parade TEN minutes before the sun came out!
How about your council STOP spending money on engineering fees and follow the directives of the audit?!!!
This city has spent TEN TIMES the audit charges while awarding contracts to Bonestroo with no competing bids! SERIOUSLY! It's in the report!!!
Too bad the current council does not acknowledge the truth but at the same time, claims to be responsible!
By the way, thanks for embarrassing the entire town with the Zubro House issue and the terrible press none of you got in front of.
Are you people fit to lead??!!! Looks like you were caught with your pants down, once again.
Say what you want to the press. Those watching know better and will ban together to see you voted out next year!
