Perhaps the city could impose a levy or a special assessment to pay the cost of the audit, Capra suggested.

Here is a recent story from the Quad. Our Mayor, Mary Capra actually suggested another special assessment

Perhaps the City could charge only the individuals that signed the petition? She wishes?

If the City doesn't have $11,500 in reserve, we are all in trouble!
I heard that we are currently over $300,000 in the hole for our 2010 budget.
Thank you for being responsible with our money, Mayor Capra!

DON'T BLAME THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE FOR THE COST OF THIS AUDIT!
YOU'VE KNOWN ABOUT IT FOR ALMOST ONE YEAR AND SHOULD HAVE BUDGETED FOR IT!

They were too busy giving our money to Bonestroo at the suggestion of an employee. His name is Mark Statz.
Don't believe everything you read in the paper.
The State Audit called it out, even though they try to bury it and claim they did everything properly.

I think Mary Capra's suggestion is unlawful and illegal.

How much money did the colored concrete and streetlights cost?
More than $12,500 that's for sure!

you spend all this money on new roads and trials with no maintenance fund set up......................shame on you council

Mayor Capra........good luck getting voted in again with comments like that.....

If I remember correctly in the debate this year you said "you supported the audit if that was what people wanted". I believe that was on tape so now you want to assess us for it. You talk out of both sides of you mouth don't you?

The bill was very low actually......

$12,500.00 divided by 3500 people is $3.50 a person...................approx.

I say it was worth it just to make them sweat.........

Lee needs to get his head out of his _ss and quit worrying about his precious festivals and start getting serious about how he is spending our money.

You set off fireworks during a tornado and cancel the parade when the sun came out. BRILLIANT.
Shouldn't you have a backup plan if the weather doesn't cooperate?

How dare we scrutinize our government! Bad, Bad People! The punishment continues. Unbelievable!

Use festival money to pay for the audit? How much are we spending on festivals? Maybe that should have also been audited.

It was so obvious the facial and vocal anger displayed by their argumentative nature with the auditor that it was TOTAL CONTEMPT for the people of this City. You can even see the auditor was taken back by their unprofessionalism. If, at anytime, an elected official has that much contempt for their people, it's time for them to hop on their horse and ride out of Dodge! Maybe the horse can leave a pile of their legacy on the road on the way out.

If I were Mayor, I would have been so embarrassed by this and SINCERELY apologized to the people that they felt the need to request this audit. I would have also promised I would do everything I could to try and do a much better job adhering to their wishes in the future.

It may have all been done within the law, but that doesn't make it MORALLY CORRECT!

Come now, the State Audit was not a complete loss...Afterall, we have a new Financial Director with a savings of approx. $30,000 a year, the city had a "lesser" annual audit done, which cost the the city less than in would have had the State Audit not been done...In fact, the way I see it, we just SAVED the City money... GREAT JOB CENTERVILLE RESIDENTS!!

Shame on our City Officials for gloating...its very sad that they still have not looked introspectively at the entire audit process. By that I mean, why did over 650 residents feel so strongly about what they were seeing in OUR city hall?? Maybe they should ask themselves this question, by the way 650 is not a few "disgruntled" citizens! I believe this was not only a successful endeavor, but a very necessary one!!

I believe that the 'downtown' street lights cost us taxpayers over $500,000! Let's remember this was Centerville's entire deficit in 2005! Now our deficit (w/ bonds) is over $12,000,000!!! ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION CENTERVILLE RESIDENTS???? Perhaps you will when your taxes continue their upward swing for many years to come!! Everyone wants to be #1, but not in taxes. Centerville is currently #3, but perhaps we will take first place at this pace!!

Wow! The people sound really ticked off in Centerville.
You get the government you deserve. By not paying attention, you get this.
The PR surrounding Zumbro house proves it.
Good luck to you... Sounds like you need it!

Great post! The residents are more concerned about their property values than the fact the the City doesn't take competitive engineering bids (and spends 100s of thousands annually) or the fact that our Finance Director up and quit his job in midst of the State Audit... Leaving us high and dry.
I commend the Mayor of Maple Lake for doing his job and only wish we had a Mayor like him.
Wait until the 2010 budget is released! JUST WAIT!

Taxes are going up 6.6% the highest allowable by law again, just like they did last year.
Unfortunately, this still might not cover our needs.
Never mind, there are always special assessments to make up the difference.

The statements made my Mayor Capra, Tom Lee and Jeff Parr just show how out of touch they are with the people. Their statements also show a lack of regard and a complete disrespect of those 600+ that signed the petition.
Instead of looking for ways to improve their relationship with the people, they chose to be defensive and hostile.
Make no mistake, if they impose a special assessment, it is a hostile action against we the people.
The fact that the audit was not budgeted for coupled with the current deficit we are facing is a testament to their incompetence.

No offense, but we need more than a "promise" to change things...We need action!!!

Perhaps Mary Capra could eat Sh%&! Since we all know she is full of it!!!
She should STOP giving money to Mark Statz an employee of BONESTROO!!! That would save Centerville tens if not hundreds of thousands dollars.
The State audit suggested exactly that!

One has to wonder why a City is so interested in assisting one particular engineering firm???
