Hey, What About That 5.5 Million In The Bank?

As stated by Mr. Paar and Ms. Capra during the campaign season, the City of Centerville has 5.5 million in the bank. This statement insinuated there was somehow a savings account.
Apparently the insinuation was incorrect... Go figure!

"Consolidation now would be just as difficult, especially with Centerville's debt," Capra said. It was Centerville's $7.8 million long-term debt that spurred the petition, signed by more than 600 residents, for a state audit of the city's spending. "
"If Lino Lakes absorbs our debt, then that's on the taxpayers of Lino Lakes," Capra said.
Capra is quoted 11/15/2008 in the Pioneer Press

Centerville petition spurs talk of merger with Lino Lakes

The last time around, Lino Lakes officials were concerned about how taking on Centerville would affect its tax base.
"They had accumulated a lot of debt per capita," said Sylvia Marier, a Lino Lakes representative on the 1992 consolidation committee. "And we would've absorbed that." Marier doubts enough has changed for another attempt to work.

She's probably right... This blog does not support nor oppose the merger issue. We are dedicated to holding our Centerville City Officials accountable.

Obviously they were making politically expedient statements. Now that the election is over, it doesn't really matter that the truth comes out.
Funny global warming video!
Thanks for the laugh. We could all use one!

Politicians say anything to get elected... These two are no exception. Lucky for Capra and Paar that there were so many others on the ballot. 38% and 21% typically does not win an election.

Well, well, well... So now after the election Capra decides to admit that the finances aren't so rosy.
I knew the 5.5 mil in the bank was a joke!
I would laugh if there was a consolidation and she found herself out of office.
The merger would save thousands on payroll alone.

Actually, the savings on payroll would be hundreds of thousands of dollars.
We might be able to catch up quick!
Wonder which city administrator we would keep. :)

I thought you people all LOVED centerville, and that is why you even have this blog. If this is true why would any of your want to merge with lino. XXXX comment about getting roads fixed is false. Our roads would just get worse because of the citzens right to vote to fix roads in lino. Oh I get it that is why you people want to merge so you can stop road improvements in this city. got it.

Looks like someone is losing sleep at night.......

Is that really the best you got "looks like someone is loing sleep at night". Maybe some people have night jobs. Point is the people on this blog are hypocrites.

Capra and Paar said we have 5.5 mil in the bank before the election and now Capra is on record stating that consolidation would be difficult "especially with Centerville's debt" after the election.
This whole merger talk is a smoke screen.
The City officials have been talking out of both sides of their mouths and are about to drive us all over a financial cliff.
THAT IS THE POINT!

Are you people so stupid that you do not understand basic accounting principles? Ever heard of words like: Assests and Liabilities?

Ever heard of words like: Tax and Spend?

Try Special Assessments on for size!

PS
Name calling is juvenile.

Here's a "basic accounting principle" for you.

Don't spend money you don't have! Liquidate the assets before accruing liabilities!

How stupid is that?

So do you have a mortage on your house? a loan for your car? a credit card? if you do, than you do not follow your own advice, now do you?

Did some developer make that comparison for you?
The average family survival is hardly analogous to running up the City debt.
What you are speaking of is life's little necessities. Not at all relevant to the forced growth of Centerville and the huge egos driving it.

Most people in Centerville do have "mortgage" on their home, need reliable transportation to get to work and have a credit card for emergencies.
What's your point?

You are spending money you do not have. Do your liabilites exceed your assests? Pratice what you preach in your own life. Save money for that emergency. It is possible to live debt free. Save for that new car, drive the junker until you have enough money to buy the newer car without other people's money. It sounds to me like it is okay for you to use other people's money to better your own life.
