Does the Mayor's "Vision" Trump Reality?

Building Activity Continues to Stagnate Through 2009
According to recently released figures, new building activity in Centerville, Hugo and Lino Lakes continued to stagnate through 2009, continuing a trend that has been evident since building activity dramatically declined in all three cities from 2005 to 2006.
In Centerville three permits for new residential units were issued last year, a three fold increase from the single permit issued in 2008. However, no permits for commercial or industrial uses were pulled in 2009.

Mary Capra might just need to see a psychologist! The question should be is our Mayor mentally incompetent?
Seriously!
To continue with the downtown development while screwing residents in this economy might be justification for impeachment!!!!
I'm sure Kurt Glaser will advise her by the hour (which we pay for) and she can write another letter of recommendation on City letterhead for him.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Hell no she isn't correct!
Maybe five years ago her vision might have worked. Oh yeah, then we would be like Circle Pines, Lino Lakes and Lexington with ALL the vacant commercial properties.
Thank God the economy tanked before she did that to us.

BTW... The street lights look ridiculous.
THANK YOU for embarrassing us with your ignorance.

P.S. The holding pond will be a similar waste of money.

That's what they are good at...
Wasting money.

Mary Capra sounds like an egomaniac.
She is up for re-election this November, isn't she?
Maybe if there aren't three people running this year, she will finally lose.

"City Attorney Kurt Glaser said the city would use up its housing stock within 2-4 years, which would lead to a demand for development." I would like to know if council believes Glaser's statement.

Glaser's premise is all wrong being as the majority of homes selling in Centerville are FORECLOSED homes, thus NO HOUSING DEMAND and therefore housing prices drop. Evidenced by only 4 building permits in the last 2 yrs. There are also vacant housing lots in centerville that have yet to sell.

Potential buyers are turned off when they look at property taxes in relation to housing values.

Why can't we wait the 2-4 years and see if our housing stock is indeed used up?
Why is an attorney suggesting this anyway?
Isn't that the role of a developer?
Oh, yeah we don't have one since The Beard Group backed out.

This city has always built for the developer there are examples throughout this city.

Anyone else notice in the Quad that the city is paying for the new parks by 'borrowing' $400,000 from park dedication fees from FUTURE development?!?!?

This will make if more likely that the city will push development even if the the timing is not right. Also, be ready for this to be used for an argument when they attempt to use eminent domain in the downtown area....

As I have stated before this City is out of control. The Mayor needs a park to watch the sunsets from? What about the money pit on the lake? $400,000 is just the start the with hello in many languages with a water feature who do you think will pay for that? I think Larson and Capra should pay for it open up ypur check books. When this council is gone they won't be known for what they have done for this city they will be known for what they have done TOO this city.

The thought of borrowing monies from what may happen in this city in the future is at best a slap in the face of the taxpayers. That's whats wrong with this country today spending more then we take in.

I can't believe that someone on the park board could even think of bring this to the council in theses times..Oh ya this Centerville.

WOW good foresight --- eminent domain rears it's ugly head once again. Thought that was 'off the table'
