Did Centerville Have a Full Time Finance Director?

While not illegal, Centerville's finance chief also worked for other cities and a private firm.

Meyer was the town's finance director, with a salary of $83,000, until he resigned from the suburban community of 3,800 earlier this year. And he had a full-time job at an architectural and engineering firm based in Fargo, N.D.

There's more: Meyer was on the payroll one day a week in Maple Lake, earning about $42,000 last year, city officials said. Plus he had a consulting business, assisting small towns such as Frazee and Canby, according to his website.

City Administrator Larson credited Meyer with bringing in $3 million in grants since the fall of 2004, when he became finance director. He said the controversy over his employment is a "nonstory" prompted by a group of disgruntled citizens.

But his marathon moonlighting is very unusual, said Robin Roland, immediate past president of the Minnesota Government Finance Officers Association. Roland, who has been active in the 600-member organization for 15 years, said she didn't know any other finance director with two jobs, much less three.
"We have a code of ethics that basically says if we work for a city, we work for the city," said Roland, Farmington's finance director. "We don't do three or four different things."

Will Mary Capra and current Council take any action?

Nice, a non-story prompted by disgruntled citizens?!!
The city administrator should be thanking the people behind this information instead of talking trash about them.

The only action they seem to be taking is to attack the citizens. Makes one wonder what else has been swept under the rugs at city hall.
The spending spree needs to stop.

Why is it citizens concerned about our city's spending are referred to as "disgruntled citizens"? Seems to me, this story proves that OUR entire City should be "disgruntled"!!

Maybe next time Dallas should articulate to the Press what exactly it is these citizens are disgruntled about!!

Maybe the city should be reimbursed for the over payment of his salary. Who is suppose to monitor employees and isn't? Rumors are the office staff is taking longgggg lunch breaks. What's is really going on at city hall? Taxpayers want to know!

Let us not forget our Mayor. You can't tell me she doesn't know what's going - although she may want you to believe she had no idea...

Larson sounds like a bumbling buffoon. What the @#$% kind of supervisor is he? Exactly who is running Centerville? The elected officials or this guy? Terrible press for our little town! To think that this non-story made the FRONT PAGE of the Star Tribune leads my family and many neighbors to wonder about the credibility of Mr. Larson.

"Let us not forget our Mayor"

She is claiming fame for bringing Meyer to town.

Let us not forget that she has a City attorney in her back pocket which is paid for by us.

Non-story... They wish!

How much did that 3 million dollars cost us in matching funds?

Funds that we did not have in the first place.........thanks Meyer.....great job

Star Trib didn't think it was a non-story did they. They put it on the front page. That comment really made Dallas look foolish if you ask me.

I don't know why we need a full-time finance director! Nor do I know why we pay a city administrator damn near $100,000 a year! He's been here, what 4-5 years, and what has he done for this city? Raised and continues to raise our taxes, our water bills, we now have to have a permit to for just about everything!! What has he really done for our city, but ruin it? How many businesses have come to town? How many have left? Nothing to lower our tax base, NOTHING!! Again I say, why do we need to pay him that kind of money?

so it's been awfully quiet here. Things must not be turning out your way? Nothing to complain about?

We certainly didn't have a full time finance director and I think he should be made to pay back the money he didn't earn.

What a rip-off!!! What a con artist!!!!

When did this guy sleep? He brought in $3 million in grants but how much did the city have to add to those grants? No wonder we have a big debt!
