Council Members Moving Forward With Finance Director Replacement

While many question the necessity of hiring a new full time replacement, the council will conduct the first round of candidate interviews Saturday, May 9.

“I’m not aware of anything [concerning Meyer’s job performance] that would raise any huge red flags,” Larson told The Citizen. “If he was resourceful enough to generate a few dollars on the side in a consulting business, that’s fine, as long as it didn’t affect his job here.”

Full Story Here
Mr. Larson was the supervisor of our last finance director and as such, isn't he obligated to investigate all information available? Maybe Centerville can survive with only a part-time director or hire a consulting firm on an hourly basis.

"City Administrator Dallas Larson and Mayor Mary Capra confirmed that Meyer concurrently completed work for other cities, but Larson said none of the work Meyer did outside of Centerville presented a conflict."

"Capra said Meyer was a good employee who brought in more than $3 million in grant funds for the city, and that resident inquiries into Meyer’s personal file are costing the city tax dollars because of attorney fees."

What Capra does not mention is how much money Centerville must spend in matching funds for these grant dollars. She also does not state why the City is spending money for attorney fees in this matter. Why not allow the residents to view the personal file (attendance records) of a former or current City employee that is known to work with other cities?

"Larson said the blog has “nothing good to say about Centerville, ever.” (Link Above)
The City officials have always been encouraged to contact the blog regarding information they consider incorrect.

Oh yeah, they are definitely in damage control mode now. Sickening that the matter is being overlooked and swept under the rug.
Spending money on attorney fees to block resident inquiries is ridiculous.
I can't believe the mayor would defend it but she did. I will not be voting for her again!

Call me stupid but aren't the attendance records a matter of public record for public employees?

I have never blogged in my life but this information is incredible!
It is true that local government has more control over your life than that of the Federal level.
I too, agree. Our officials are in full on damage control mode. Digging into the facts appear to be something they are unwilling to do. Maybe because the facts do not reflect well on them.
Are there ever any meetings of your group? I would like to attend and become better informed for future elections.

The Quad reporter did not ask any follow up questions and let both Capra and Larson off the hook.

I heard that Centerville was considering bringing Meyer back on a part time basis. Maybe this was changed due to the blog or maybe I heard wrong.
Bottom line;
The City needs to STOP spending our money!! Centerville does NOT need a new full time finance director!
It is apparent that we never had one in Meyer.

Mayor Capra....are you listening??? If you can't see what's really going on, you should step down...

She will NEVER step down!!! Centerville is just a stepping stone in her big, fat, giant career aspiration.
You would never know that she hasn't lived here "all her life" since she cares so much.
Wasn't Capra responsible for bringing Meyer to town? I believe she campaigned for reelection on this very issue.
Great job, Mary. Hiring someone with outside interests and not monitoring his activities is brilliant.
Go ahead and blame the citizens... Where are those personal records and why are we paying attorney fees to NOT release them?
Can't wait to vote against you in 2010!

The purpose behind this blog is to inform the Citizens of what is going on in Centerville and let people come to their own conclusion, not to sing your praises Dallas.
