Reality Check

(from a comment under previous article from a citizen)
I have just spoken with the MN Attorney General Office AND the MN Secretary of State Office. (Attorney General: 651-296-6196)
(Secretary of State: 651-296-2551specifically: Tom Karlson, Manager of Standards and Procedures for Secretary of State 651-296-4715)

If the City has not yet had their required audit by the firm they hire for 2008 (Centerville has NOT yet for '08), the City CAN indeed "replace the independent auditing firm with the State's audit" for the year. If you still do not believe this, please take it up with the Secretary of State.

Again, the incumbents can honor their word from the Candidate Forum and get behind the State Audit. The City & incumbents do not need to proceed with hiring their independent firm for '08 at an added cost of $30K.

Hay Jill - think about it. Why would the City have an audit for 2008 when the year isn't even over.

I am curious... did the current council say they were going to do both audits? The post suggests that this is the case.... is this known?

I cannot image that they would now that the audit got the signatures.

Do you know somethign that I do not?

Hey know it all. Look under Appointments. I think by appointing an auditor it is hiring them for the year. Might want to check that out.

The City has certainly insinuated such, by stating this will "cost" the city $30,000+ to have the State Audit. But what they aren't saying or what they don't want to tell everyone is that the fact of the matter is it will cost the city nothing more than what they already have "earmarked" for an audit (state or private) - unless of course they decide to have the annual audit as well.

If they have the annual audit as well as the state audit...........shame on them for wasting our money. Even that we have to think they MIGHT do such a thing proves there is no trust left in our sitting elected officials and they need to go.
VOTE OUT THE INCUMBENTS............

The information and contact people are clearly listed in the post. Why don't you call and find out for yourself as suggested?
