Do City Officials Care When the Employment Policy is Violated?
Apparently they all have turned a blind eye to it here in Centerville! Our last finance director John Meyer, split town (citing health issues) in the midst of a State audit and left us high and dry on the 2009 Centerville budget. It has come to our attention that the Centerville City officials (including Mayor Mary Capra) knew our former finance director was working with other cities at the same time he was employed with the City of Centerville. They also knew he owned his own business upon choosing to hire him in 2005. Mr. Meyer did all this with their knowledge even though it most likely was a violation of Centerville's employment policy.
See actual policy documentation above.

Maybe it's time to question what is going on behind the walls of City Hall during working hours and the judgment of our elected officials. To some, this appears to be further evidence of selective enforcement. To others this is a violation of public trust and reckless use of taxpayer dollars.

OMG!
All council cares about is bringing in more money to cover Centerville from the debt they have driven it into.
The downtown development will never happen and they have wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars planning for it.
And they deny thee was anything wrong with Meyer's performance? The city needs to get their heads out of the sand.
let's not jump to conclusions though we do not have any proof that any of his other activities conflicted with his job in centerville. oh yeah that is what this blog does, I forgot.
@ 9:11 anonymous
jump to conclusions? there is nothing wrong with asking questions.
how could a salaried employee making $84,000 year bill out any additional money with other cities without conflicting with his job?
cities operate during normal working hours. not nights and weekends.
that sounds like a conflict and violation of any employment policy.
"we do not have any proof that any of his other activities conflicted with his job in centerville."
Don't be so sure that there is no proof.
So "bright one" @ 9:11, do you have proof that this was done after hours? Because I'm sure you have the records to prove this was all done after hours?
Anyone living in this city for the last 2+ years and who has been paying attention to the "crap" that goes on around here, would question the plentiful activity of Mr. Meyer's!
Do you honestly think work with other cities, any city, could be done after 5:00 p.m on any given workday?? Because prior to 4 or 5 pm every workday, Mr. Meyer's was suppose to be working for us!!
TO CENTERVILLE MAYOR, COUNCIL & ADMINISTRATOR -
Our family would like to know:
"Were you fully aware of Mr. Meyer's employment with ALL these other cities as well as with ANOTHER COMPANY while he worked full time for Centerville?"
to the last blogger..............
you need to email that question directly to their personal email addresses (found on this site also)
because none of them read this thing..............so they say.
I bet they are on it every day, especially Dallas.
No, Dallas has Theresa Bender do that for him...
Okay everyone, lets not lose track of the real issue here... and that's whether or not the City Staff/Council/Mayor knew about Mr. Meyer's "outside employment" activity. If so, why on earth would this be allowed? Especially to the tune of the salary that Mr. Meyer was paid (I believe somewhere around $80,000), but where's the culpability of our City Administrator and Mayor? This went on, apparently, with their full knowledge!!
Evidently, they didn't care how much he "Took" from US, so as long as they got what they wanted.
this guy apparently charged as much as 35 hours a week to one of his other jobs. How can that not be a conflict? How does someone work 40 hours and another 35 somewhere else. He made $40k at this other art time job. What a joke! Nobody is watchign the henhouse.
Don't forget, this was done under the watchful eye of the City administrator that saw no "huge red flag."
The fact that our Mayor and recent Council asked no questions is a testament to their leadership.
The further fact that they all currently defend their decision rather than ask questions is despicable!
