Special Assessment Hearing in the Press

Quad Press 1/27/2009
Some residents briefly questioned the various water fees; the financial burden placed on the community as a whole; how the 5.5 percent interest rate was calculated; why their assessment was higher than the neighbors; how the city went about assessing an odd-shaped lot; why they couldn't find information on the city Website and why the most-traveled part of the street was being assessed the least.
Other residents were more direct in expressing their displeasure.
Resident Daniel Skoog noted that the city reduced the project from $8 million to $4 million, but didn't reduce his assessment by half.
"You haven't done a good job," he said. "I'll bet if I asked everyone in this room who was disappointed, they'd stand up and yell." Loud clapping followed his remark.
Cheers also greeted resident William Svetin's comments. "You place the burden of proof (of property appraisal) on the people," he said. "It shouldn't be that way. You should prove to us." Svetin said he couldn't get a copy of his property appraisal when he went to City Hall.
Skoog and resident Scott Klemann disputed the city's statement that assessments are based on the assumed property value increase due to the street improvements. Klemann said the appraiser his neighbor consulted stated that street improvements "wouldn't raise the value of a home one penny."
Dozens of property owners submitted written protests to city officials, but the time period for oral and written objections is now closed. After the meeting, City Attorney Kurt Glaser met with citizens individually to answer their questions. Citizens will have to hire their own appraiser to provide the numbers to back up their objections, he said.

Make that welcome to Nazi-ville!
Unbelievable!

How these clowns keep getting reelected is beyond me.
At least Ben F. has the common sense to ask questions. Too bad Vickers treats him like an idiot. Can't wait for election day 2010!

Guess that's what happens when the citizens are forced to meet with the city attorney and are referred to the engineer (who works for Bonestroo)with concerns.
Mary Capra and council really let us down on this one. Want answers? Refer to the city attorney, who incidentally bills us by the hour...
The leadership is lost and our city is being run by people that don't even live here!!!

How much money was spent on engineering and paid to Bonestroo for this travesty? How much money was billed by the city attorney to interact with the residents in place of our elected officials?
Follow the money...

Seriously, that hearing was a joke. It was only held because it was required by law.

TIME TO SEEK LEGAL ADVICE! NO TIME TO LOSE!

I thinks it's time to contact the Institute for Justice, Minnesota Chapter. See below for further info on this:

Do You Have a Case for Us?
The Institute is a non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting individual liberty. We represent individuals and owners of small businesses who want to sue the government when its laws violate their constitutional rights. Our areas of expertise are:

ECONOMIC LIBERTY - challenges to occupational licensing regulations, government-created monopolies, and barriers to interstate commerce;
SCHOOL CHOICE - defending parents’ use of vouchers and tax credits;
PROPERTY RIGHTS - defending against the taking of private property by the government for transfer to other private entities, and protecting homes against warrantless searches, and
FREE SPEECH - defending the right to speak about politics and commerce.

Can somebody out there that is more familiar with this special road assessment case and city water fee, that you have to pay when you don't even have city water in case you may have a fire some day, call them and see if they can help.

I would not mind contacting them but I am disabled and my disability is such that some days it is all I can do to handle my daily chores. Also, I feel I do not know enough about the specifics to be a good representative of the people of Centerville. If someone were to contact them and they could help, I would think they would want to get together with all the people affected. Maybe several people could get involved in this if they can do something for us.

Please somebody or somebodies call them. What have we got to lose?
They may even be able to help with some other issues that the citizens have with the City.

Nice article Pioneer Press, too bad you don't use your investigative reporters to really dig in and find out the truth behind how things are done in "Nazi-ville"!

Maybe Channel 4,5,9, or 11 would be interested???

Person one is a controller. Controllers manipulate to get what they want no matter who it hurts. Then person one gets person two to help person one to control but keeping just under the law. Person three doesn't get what is going on or turns head to what is happening. Person one says one thing and does another.

Person one is a controller.

This is called compartmentalizing or the New World Order.

God help us!

Please stop using the term "Nazi'ville". As a jewish member of this community, I find it very offensive.

How do you feel about "Hooterville"?

I sure wish the term "Naziville" was all that offended me about this city!

I believe the term stupid-ville is appropriate for describing our leaders but that might offend the stupid people.
Lighten up.
