The City website is not always the best at keeping the citizens informed with their "brief" list of upcoming sessions.

All Council sessions are held on the second and forth Wednesday of each month (if not rescheduled) at 6:30 and are open to the public.
Remember, you will not be allowed to speak unless you have previously arranged to be on the agenda or a request to address Council for two minutes is approved by Mayor Mary Capra in advance. Speaking out of turn is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

The city should consider opening up a competitive request-for-proposal process for things such as engineering services to "demonstrate impartiality."

It should provide more oversight of employee-reimbursement funds such as mileage to ensure information is recorded accurately.

It should do more monitoring of the city administrator's and finance director's time spent working and revise if necessary.

Could this last statement have something to do with our past Finance Director?

Consolidation is the right thing to do. I have done some research and spoken to the league of cites in St. Paul. In order to get a consolidation to a vote to the general public, you need a petition signed by 5% of registered voters that voted in the last govenor election. 1603 citizens voted. That would amount to aproximately 80 signatures. Once the signatures are done, it is then presented to the city council which by statute they must post the consolidation to the citizens of centerville for a vote. If the majority vote in favor of the resolution. The consolidation moves forward. Taxes will be lower, our police service will be moved to Lino lakes which patrols all around our city, and the cost will be significantly reduced. Citizens you must know, our taxes in this city will always go up. We have no business, nor will we ever get any business. Lino lakes has the corner market on incentives for business. I love this city but hate the tax burden that is placed on all of us. We can do something about it. The time is now.

Remember, Consolidation with Lino Lakes would mean that Centerville would dissolve and we would become part of the city of Lino Lakes and fall under their city government and rules.

I agree and so does my husband. He has said this all along.Centerville has 45% budget for Police??? Do we have enough residences for this amount of police force? I have a great birds eye view of Centerville Road and Main Street at night and you should see the amount of police cars doing 80 mph down Centerville road. You would think I live in the inner city.Do we have a candidate for Mayor? We should have a meeting about this soon.

I agree, lets go for it. Now is a good time. It seems that alot of voices in this city have fallen on deaf ears. I love this city,but our taxes just keep going up and up,something has to be done.

Taxes keep going up because the City is trying to turn us into an Edina. We don't have the land share for this type of community. I see an beautiful old neighborhood that could be really quaint and charming but instead the City wants to bull doze it down and create a sudo town. They were hoping we all would just leave. I don't think we are going anywhere though!

"The February informational meeting was one of the biggest lapses of leadership I've seen in a very long time. A resident was given the microphone to speak his thoughts in front of the community. The resident was interrupted by a heated side discussion between city council rep Jeff Parr and another resident. In my opinion the man with the microphone should have had the floor. Dallas Larson was given back the microphone and at that point should have proclaimed order in the court, but instead allowed this heated discussion to continue. It was at that point that Mary Capra left the room to contact the police. They showed up shortly afterwards. In my opinion, what we needed was someone to step up to the plate and call a meeting to order. Instead it turned into a frustrating display and lack of leadership. Being that I am new to the ways of how our city works I hope that this was just an anomaly and not an example of leadership in other instances".

Selective Ordinance Enforcement in Centerville

There is so much selective enforcement in this city its unbelievable! How about the single mailboxes on Old Mill Road? Mailboxes are suppose to be in clusters, they have been up for over a year, has anyone cited them for a ordinance violation? If not why??? How about one of the P&Z members that has a ordinance violation, has he been cited? I bet not. Tell me that's not selective enforcement!!!; 12:01 PM CDT

Centerville seems to only enforce the ordinance code on a complaint basis, which would mean that if you do not get along with your neighbor, you are in trouble! If the city gives you a citation for an ordinance violation; either take care of it or work it out with the city. Do not run around accussing over 100 of your neighbors of violations(XXXX obviously has too much time on her hands). Be an adult deal with your own issues and stay out of my yard.; 4:26 AM CDT

If you had been monitoring your yard, like you did on the day it was raining and the Rice Creek Watershed was at XXXX house, then you would know that XXXX wasn't in your yard. Walking up and down the boulevard with your umbrella, like a cat waiting to pounce. Then you would've known it was the Rice Creek Watershed's representative that was in your yard! Frankly, the City should stay out of Civil cases, period! How about mediation, with someone outside our city?; 4:27 AM CDT

This citizen is in favor of enforcing the ordinances EQUALLY! Many of the ordinances are ridiculous and should be ignored, EQUALLY! No need to hire an additional staff member to do that.; 7:24 AM CDT

Which I'm sure costs the city much more than if we simply relied on the public works dept to report ordinance violations. Anonymous said...: In response to Dan. I am one of the 80+ residents named by XXXX. I reviewed the ordinance in question and I was compiant with the ordinance. So how many were truly in violation? It disturbs me that a citizen needs to blame others rather than deal with their own issues. I do not think we need private citizens driving around rightly or wrongly accussing other citizens of ordinance violations. (what if we all did that?) If your neighbor does not have a problem with a possible violation then we do not have a problem. We do not need some one that lives 6 blocks away creating a problem.; 4:28 PM CDT
Anonymous said...: One problem is there are so many ordinances that the committees (P&Z) aren't aware of them. According to my source a letter was sent to Mayor and Dallas regarding a developer and former P&Z person who violated the mail box ordinance. Boxes must be clustered no less than 4 and no more than 6. The letter was acknowledged that there was a violation. That was last January and the boxes (3 sets of double boxes) and (two single boxes grandfathered in). Nothing has been done. Selective privelege?; 12:23 PM CDT

Many, many people were in violation of the ordinance. They just didn't have hateful neighbors with too much time on their hands, complaining to the City.
It's not for you to review the ordinance for compliance, it is up to the City.

Anonymous said...: Once again, the City Clerk walks the city and decides who she's going to complain about too. So, if she doesn't or can't walk by your residence, then you likely will never receive a ordinance violation notice, unless of course another resident receives one and takes the necessary action to get the city off their backs. Maybe the City really needs to realize there are other ways to handle these things??? I would have named every address in the city if I had to in order to fight for my rights against the tyranny of city hall. Not to mention avoid having to hire a lawyer, which city hall believes you won't find it worth the cost... Trust me, been there... love your opinion, Mr/Mrs we don't need anyone walking the streets looking for "your" violations... hope you never find yourself in this position. But the truth of the matter is, you are probably already someone "in the city" or you are someone who is a good friend with someone in city hall...Yippee for you!
